# How to use What Ranks Where?

### What is What Ranks Where?

This is one of our most popular **Keyword Research** tools. With **What Ranks Where**, you will be able to discover new keyword and topic ideas, check your search engine rankings (or keyword positions) as well as discover the rankings of your competitors.

In short, **What Ranks Where** analyzes Google’s Top 100 results (both organic and paid) and shows you what keywords or phrases any site ranks for. You can analyze your own sites, as well as your client sites, competitor sites ... basically any site you want.

### How to Use What Ranks Where?

1. The **What Ranks Where** tool is located in the **Keyword Research** section, in the **TOOLS** menu.

2. Click on the blue + button located at the top right of the screen, which will open up the **New Search** modal, where you need to enter the following information:

* **Site Name**
* **Website address**
* **Select database** - You can choose between Google US, Google Canada, Google UK and many other Google databases.
* **Select the number of results** - This is the number of keywords that you want to be displayed in your results. You can select from as low as 20 results to 2,000 results.
* **Select the Search Type**- You can select between “Organic” or “PPC” (paid results i.e. Google Ads).
* **Select extent of Search** - You can choose between checking the whole site, or an exact URL.
* **Select Results Display** - You can choose to view your results by position, or traffic.
* **Check Traffic Value** - This feature is currently in beta. This will give you an estimation of the traffic value of each keyword.
* **Only show positions of 11-100** - Select this if you only want to show keywords that rank outside Google's Top 10 i.e. ranking 11th, 12th and so on. You should tick this box if you want to find opportunities to get more keywords ranking on Page 1. Imagine you have a few keywords ranking 11th or 12th… You just need to put in a bit more effort to get them to rank on Page 1… and get more exposure.

Note that each result is equivalent to 1 credit and the number of credits that you will be using per search is indicated at the bottom of the search modal. The number of credits available depends on your subscription package. If you need more you can always purchase more credits or upgrade your subscription package.

3. Then click on “Check Now” and you will be shown a list of keywords and phrases that the whole site or URL ranks for, with the **Ranking Page**, **Current Position**, **Previous Position** and **Position Difference**. Please note that these positions can be a few days old and are not the exact position as at the date of the search.

**IMPORTANT:** The position shown is the latest position found by our data provider and can be a few days old. For more accurate positions, use [Rank Tracker](https://help.serped.net/en/article/what-is-rank-tracker-how-to-use-it-lldg9u/?bust=1620374538582) or Instant Check.

4. In addition to ranking and position details, you will also be able to see the following information as well:

*  **Estimated Monthly Search Volume**
* **Estimated Traffic**
* **Cost Per Click**
* **Estimated Traffic Value** (in percentage) - (TRF%) is the share of traffic driven to the site with this keyword.
* **Estimated Traffic Value** (in USD) - (TRF$) is the percentage of the site’s total traffic cost that is attributed to this keyword.
* **Estimated Traffic Cost** (in percentage)
* **Pay Per Click Competition**
* **Number of Results in Google**

* Please note that the figures shown for the **Estimated Traffic** is generated by the keywords listed below only, and __not__ the traffic generated by ALL keywords the site ranks for.

* The same goes for the figures shown for the **Estimated Traffic Value**, which is based on the Estimated Traffic and Cost Per Click numbers. Again, this is just an estimation, for the keywords listed below only, and __not__ for ALL the keywords the site ranks for.

6. You can obtain more information about a specific keyword, by clicking on it. This will launch our **Keyword Analyzer** tool, which provides you with a Keyword Difficulty Score, that is… how hard it would be to rank for this keyword.
