What is SSL Prospector & How to Use it?

What is SSL Prospector?

SSL Prospector is a lead generation tool that allows you to find websites that do not have an SSL certificate or have an SSL certificate but the connection is still considered not secured (according to Google), so you can get in touch with them and offer them your services. It is part of Advanced Prospector, a tool that's included in the SERPed Agency add-on. You can learn more about the agency add-on here and Advanced Prospector here.

How to Use SSL Prospector?

Under the Agency tab, select Advanced Prospector.

You will be taken to the Advanced Prospector welcome page or history page where you can view the results of your past searches. To start a new search, click on the blue + button at the top right of the page.

A modal will open up where you can select the type of search that you want to conduct. Select SSL Prospector and fill out the form.

There are 2 types of searches you can do with SSL Prospector: Keyword search or Scan Own URLs search. For a Keyword search, simply fill in the keyword that you want to search for, select the Google database and language of the report and click SCAN RESULTS.

SSL Prospector will then search for this keyword in Google, list all the sites it finds in the Top 100 organic results and indicate if an SSL certificate was detected for the site or not, and if the connection is secured or not (according to Google). Note that it can take a few minutes for our tool to complete the scan so please be patient.

For a Scan Own URLs search, simply enter in the URL of the site you want to check and click SCAN RESULTS. Note you can enter up to 50 URLs at once.

From the list of results, simply select the sites you would like to get in touch with by ticking the boxes on the left and clicking on Email/Download Prospects.

A modal will appear wherein you have to:

Select a company profile (to show your brand, contact details, etc.);
Write an introduction (which will be displayed at the beginning of the report);
Make sure there is an email address for each business;
Write a summary (which will be displayed at the end of the report).

If the email address is not provided by our system, we suggest you visit the website or Facebook page of the business in question. You should be able to find it quite easily.

Then, click on Next Step.

Draft the email that will be sent to the site owners that you have selected. We provide you with an email template of course, with some shortcodes. You can modify it, or write your own email and then save it as a template. You can preview the email and once you are happy with the email, select SEND EMAIL.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Please note that, before you can send emails via our system, you must add your SMTP details to your SERPed.net profile. You can read more about how to do this here.

You can access your email history from the results page, to see who you contacted exactly, what email they received and so on. This way you can keep track of everything and make sure you are not missing any important information.

Alternatively, if you don't want to use an SMTP provider, you also have the option to export this data as a CSV file. Simply use the CSV export function and email these businesses the way you want... using Gmail, Outlook or any other email service provider. You can also click on the three-dot icon on the right of each website URL and you will have the option to view the SSL report, generate a PDF link to the SSL report, email the prospect or look up the site's WhoIs info.

For sites that have SSL certificates but the connections are considered not secured by Google, the SSL report will also provide information about why the site connection is considered unsecured as per example below.
