What is Rank Tracker & How to Use it?

What is Rank Tracker?

Rank Tracker is a tool that allows you to track your Google, Bing and Yahoo rankings in the countries, cities and areas of your choice. It works for both desktop and mobile rankings. With Rank Tracker, you get detailed ranking tables and historical data so you can see where your pages or clients' pages rank in the search engines for the keywords of your choice and how the rankings evolve. Rankings are updated as often as you choose, on a daily, weekly or anything in between basis.

How to use Rank Tracker?

When you open Rank Tracker, you will land on the Overview page, where you will see the list of sites that you are currently tracking, as well as your position breakdown, biggest gainers and biggest losers. This page is an overview of all your rankings.

From here, you can either click on a site in the list, or select a site from the drop-down menu located at the top left. This menu will help you easily navigate between the different sites that you are tracking.

Note that a site must first be added via the Site Manager tool, before it will appear on the list of sites that can be selected. You can read more about how to add a site here.

Add Keywords

When you add a site to Site Manager, you are given the opportunity to decide if you want to track any keywords via Rank Tracker. If you did not enter any keywords then or if you want to add new keywords, simply click the + button located at the top right of the screen. This will open a modal, where you can:

Select between Site Tracking or Press Release Tracking.
Select the Project that the site you want to select is in.
Select a Site from the list of sites that you have added to Site Manager. You can read about how to add a site to Site Manager here.
Enter the Keyword(s) you want to track.
Choose Check Period i.e. the frequency that you want the check to occur.
Choose Engine(s) i.e. the search engine-s) you want to check, its location and language. You can even specify a city or area if you want to.
Check Mobile Rankings (Google only)
Assign Tag (Optional) - this option will enable you to filter keywords by tag making it easier to categorize the keywords you track.
Search Vol. Country & Language (under Advanced Options) - if you want to see the search volume(s) in a specific country and/or language

Suggest Keywords

If you are unsure of what keyword(s) to track, you can try our Suggest Keywords option. By inputting a few Seed Keyword(s) i.e. the main keyword(s) that you want to track, our system will suggest some possible keyword(s) relating to the Seed Keyword(s), that you may want to consider tracking.

Edit Check Periods

Note that you can edit the check period of keywords at any time. For example, imagine you asked the system to check the rankings of a particular keyword every 7 days... If you want to increase the frequency of checks, you can now do so by clicking on the little 3 dots icon at the end of the table and select the "Edit Check Period" option in this menu. Your credit spends will automatically adjust.

Keyword View

In the Keyword View section, you will see the list of keywords you are currently tracking, with their respective positions, ranking pages and search volumes, as well as useful graphs, including a mini history graph, your position breakdown and more.

CPC Column

There is also a CPC column, so you can see the Cost-Per-Click value of all the keywords you are tracking. Note that this column is hidden by default. To make it appear, click on the Table Column Configuration cog located at the top right of the table and tick the CPC box.

Variation Column

You can also view the percentage variations, under the Variation column, as you can see below. Please note that this column is hidden by default. To make it appear, click on the Table Column Configuration cog located at the top right of the table and tick the Variation box.

Graphs Under Keyword View

If you click on a keyword, you will be directed to a page dedicated to that keyword, with a detailed history graph, as well as more information about the ranking page, including Moz and Majestic metrics, social signals and much more.

You will also be able to see percentage variations under the line graph, so you can see how your position(s) evolved over time, based on the dates selected in the date picker located above the graph.

You can also see a history graph with competitor rankings over time, as well as the Fantastic 13 graph (for Ultimate & Enterprise members only).
